Mayflower

SSPA’s Dog’s Day Out program makes a difference in the lives of companion animals by ensuring they get plenty of exercise, attention, and exposure to environments outside of the shelter, all while putting smiles on the faces of the people who share this experience with them. • Here’s what our volunteers had to say about Maysie after fun Dog Days Out:
She was sooooo cute and fun to be with! I hope she finds a forever home soon!

Mayflower is a strong girl powered by excitement and love. She got a gorgeous coat and is very muscular. She may pull the leash out of excitement but with corrections and patience, she listens to the commands well because she is smart. As far as we know she knows to sit and shake. She is such a sweetheart on the inside. She LOVES to roll on the grass and lean against you to be petted. Once she opens up to you and engages with you, it’s game over because she steals your heart and you just want to take her home with you.

It absolutely broke my heart to see the shift in her excitement when she was leaving the shelter versus when she was going back. When we were back at the shelter, she was quiet. She came up to me a few times and pushed her head against me to be held and pet. She was a whole different dog when she was leaving the shelter.

This was a good reminder that you shouldn’t judge a dog by the way they behave in the shelter.

I hope she finds someone who is patient, dedicated, and loves adventure as much as she does. I hope she finds her forever home soon. She would make such an amazing addition to a family.

I wanted to thank you again for this amazing program. I can see how much of a positive the program is adding to both the dogs and humans. I can’t wait to sign up for another one soon.

Meeting Dogs at the Shelter

The shelter’s kennels are loud, stressful places for dogs. Some dogs express that stress by exhibiting behavior inside a kennel that they will not show otherwise. Please ask to take the dog you are interested in to a play yard and spend some time getting to know him or her in that more relaxed environment. For more information on meeting dogs at the shelter, please read this article.
