Meet Laura, who puts in countless hours behind the scenes helping this website and PB SOC’s Facebook page run smoothly. She builds pages, writes articles, does updates, and generally performs a million thankless tasks that ensure our website has the information adopters need to make good decisions about their future family members. And she makes it all look easy, even though it’s not!
How long have you been volunteering with PB SOC?
Since late April, 2014
How did you get started?
I’ve adopted a couple of dogs from the county shelter and had followed
the PB SOC Facebook page since it was started. While I talked to
Delyse a couple times before adopting our pit bull, I have gotten to
know her more through her obedience class with PROUD (which I
HIGHLY recommend). I noticed the new website and asked if I could
help. It turns out the person who created the website was my pit
bull’s foster mom, Jamie.
What do you do for PB SOC?
Anything Delyse and Jamie ask! I help with the website and am the primary person on the Facebook page. I have also just recently started walking dogs at the shelter. Of course, that includes obedience training and giving them well-deserved attention.
What is one of your favorite things about working with the dogs?
Just getting to know them. Dishing out and receiving love. Since I do most of the Facebook posts, walking the dogs really helps me when writing about them. I adore them, so I hope that is conveyed with my posts. I really care about them all.
What would you say to someone considering volunteering for us?
Do it! There are so many needs. You don’t have to be a dog expert. You
just have to care.
Thank you, Laura! Your hard work may be mostly behind the scenes, but it’s having a huge positive impact on our dogs and our community.
